Radars down Cents
Submitted By Joey's Corner on Wednesday, January 8, 2020
In Clinton on Friday, Jan. 3 the Clinton Radars defeated the Huron East Centenaires 7-3 to remain the victors of Highway 8.

This game was held in conjunction with the BCH Pee Wee team’s bid for the Chevrolet Good Deeds Challenge. The Pee Wee picked Youth Mental Health to be the recipients of their fundraising efforts. The Huron Perth Centre for Youth Mental Health Awareness representative, Val Millson was on hand to express her thanks to the Pee Wee team and reiterate the many ways in which everyone can offer support to our youth. A donation from the Clinton Radars in the amount of $1,125 was also given to the Tanner Steffler Foundation.

The Radars were honoured to have five seniors from the Seaforth Long Term Care Facility in attendance. They were Paul Bell, Brian Eggington, Tom Noon, Bob O’Brien and Tom Rawlings. The Bridges Dream Foundation granted Tom Rawling’s wish to attend a Clinton Radars game. Tom played some hockey in Clinton a day or two ago, when the arena was on Mary Street. “It was quite an old barn,” he joked.

The Radars opened the scoring at 5:25 in the first period when Sean Consitt scored a shorthanded goal. He received a long pass from Brad Burton at centre ice, skated in all alone and with some fancy foot and stick work deked the Cents goalie Alex Hutcheson. Radars goalie Greg Dodds also picked up an assist on the play.

At 12:40, Steven Shipley punished the Cents further for yet another visit to the sin bin. Ryan Murphy muscled himself to the visitors net and expertly passed the puck off for Shipley to dangle and tuck it home. The Dars, on their third powerplay of the period again sent a message to the Centenaires when Max Campbell gave the home team a 3-0 advantage. His shot from the point came on a well-executed pass from Nathan Ansell. The Cents would get one back when Rob Vanwynsbergh found the back of Dodds’ net at 17:39.

In the middle frame the Radars outscored the Cents 4-1. Scoring for Clinton were Sean Consitt with his second, Cullen Mercer, Ryan Murphy and Ray Huether.

In the third period the Centenaires’ Rueben Smith scored the lone goal at 15:05 to make the final score of this game 7-3. The Radars outshot the Cents 38 to 26 in this loosely played game.

Clinton’s next game will be Friday, Jan. 17 when they will play host to the Petrolia Squires at 8:30 p.m.
